Porthgwarra - New Interpretation Board
Sectors: Leisure facilities, Golf courses, Parks and Recreational spaces
The brief was to create a map for St Aubyn Estates to ensure visitors knew which footpaths were available as part of the South West Coast path and which were restricted; as well as providing the opportunity to reveal the history and culture of the small fishing community in Porthgwarra. The area has certainly seen an influx of visitors since the filming of Poldark, as the 8.1 million viewers consider visiting this rural idyll.
Clear Mapping Company worked closely with the client to collate detailed information about the landscape in Porthgwarra. We used Ordnance Survey #OpenData using QGIS software, aerial data and photography from site visits. For this interpretation board, we used both traditional and modern cartographic skills which was essential to creating a map in a beautiful style that complemented the rural location.
We entered the 'Poldark's Country' map into the British Cartographic Society Ordnance Survey #OpenData Awards in September 2015 and were delighted to win!
“Caroline went to a lot of trouble to ensure our information panel was in line with our expectations for this very site specific commission. We are very pleased with the result and would happily recommend Clear Mapping Company to other prospective customers.” Andrew Davey, St Aubyn Estates 2015
